Bantam Phantoms Crowned Playoff Champions

BOARDMAN, Ohio (Monday, March 3, 2008) - After winning the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League regular season championship a few weeks ago, there was only one thing the Phantom Fireworks Bantam A team had left to do - win the playoff crown as well.

Led by five points from Zach Jones, four points from Corey Barnhouse, and the near-perfect goaltending of Brennan Allen, the Phantoms did just that, winning a pair of games this weekend at the Ice Connection in Butler, Penn. to take home the title of PAHL Bantam A Major Black Division Champions.

In their semi-final showdown Saturday against Cambria, Barnhouse collected a goal and an assist, while Allen turned aside all 17 shots for the 3-0 shutout victory.

In Sunday's championship final, Allen turned in another spectacular performance, stopping 28 of 29 shots, while Zack Jones seized the day, scoring twice and assisting on two others, leading the Phantoms to a 4-1 win over North Pittsburgh 273.

The Bantam A Phantoms (18-4-0) will now head to the Ohio State Tier II Hockey Tournament in Gates Mills this Wednesday through Sunday to face off against the best this state has to offer.

The Phantoms will face the Cleveland Warriors on Wednesday and the Dayton Bombers on Saturday, before Sunday's championship round.

The Phantoms Youth Hockey program is based out of Boardman, Ohio and plays all home games at the Ice Zone, sponsored by the B.J. Alan Company - Phantom Fireworks.

Phantom Fireworks Bantams Win PAHL Crown

BOARDMAN, Ohio (Monday, February 11, 2008) – Up by two games, and with just one left to play, the Phantom Fireworks Bantam A team clinched the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League regular season championship with a 4-2 triumph over the Cambria Warriors on Sunday afternoon at the Ice Zone.

The Phantoms are now 16-3-0 in PAHL play this season, and will gear up for the playoffs with one last regular season showdown against second-place Morgantown (13-4-2) on February 23 at the Ice Zone in Boardman. In the only other match-up this year between the two, the Phantoms won 3-0 back on December 8.

Bantams Still First in PAHL

BOARDMAN, Ohio (Tuesday, January 29, 2008) - Despite suffering their first two setbacks of the season this month, the Phantom Fireworks Bantam A team continues to hold onto first place in the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League.

After starting the season with an 11-0-0 record, the Phantoms fell for the first time back on January 6, getting upset 2-0 by 10th place Southpointe.

Since that first loss, the team has handled the adversity by going 3-1-0 in their last four contests, losing only to State College 4-2 back on January 16.

With a 6-3 triumph over Wheeling, a 3-1 victory against South Hills, and 5-4 win this past weekend in a showdown against second place North Pittsburgh, the Phantoms are now 14-2-0 and two games ahead of everyone in the race for the PAHL Black Division title.

The Bantam Phantoms now gear up for their final five games of the regular season, beginning this Sunday against Arctic Foxes at the Ice Zone in Boardman.

Sunday's game was a little closer. Forward Jared Taylor had a goal and two assists, while Mario Picciotto, Chase Leonelli, and Corey Barnhouse each contributed two points, leading the Phantoms to a 4-3 win at home against Allegheny.

The Bantams will now enjoy a two week break before returning to PAHL action on Jan. 6 against Southpointe (Pittsburgh, Penn.).
